Origin Story

I came up with the idea for ZUXI while caring for my soul dog, Zuc. He wasn't just any dog. He was the first dog who depended entirely on me. Zuc entered my life during a dark time and helped me through it in ways only a dog can. I know many of you can relate to that deep, indescribable bond we form with our dogs.

Well... one summer, we were on a family vacation, and of course, I brought Zuc along. I was out one night and left my dad with instructions on how much to feed him for dinner and when, but when I returned, Zuc was in obvious distress - whining, stretching, and clearly uncomfortable. After a tense night, I found out the reason for his pain: instead of his usual half cup of food, my dad had "lost" the note with my instructions and decided to just give him a bowl of pasta for dinner (1,000 calories worth of baked ziti!)

Now, I know Zuc, and I’m sure he thought Pop Pop was the coolest guy ever in the moment. But he paid for it. Seeing him in pain broke my heart. He also earned the family's nickname for him "pukey Zukey" that weekend. From that moment on, every time someone else watched Zuc, I made sure nothing like that could ever happen again.

That’s when the idea for ZUXI was born. I wanted one organized system that made it easier to prepare for the moments I wasn't there. A way to keep meals, supplements, treats, and instructions together, and create as much clarity as possible for the people caring for our dogs.

OUR MISSION

I always thought I would be taking this journey with Zuc by my side. That his adorable little face, would be the face of the brand. But before we could launch together, I lost him to a very rare form of cancer. He was diagnosed and gone within nine months... just after his eighth birthday. I don’t know why he had to leave me so soon, but I truly believe that this was a gift from him, and I want to do my absolute best to get this product in the hands of as many dog moms and dads as possible - because it genuinely did help us and continues to help me and Mika and Louie.

That's why, in honor of Zuc, the mission behind ZUXI is to fight canine cancer. We will do this in three ways: funding research, supporting foundations, and showing up directly for families who are living through a diagnosis now.

THAT IS OUR PURPOSE
